The chia plant, Salvia Hispanica L., is a member of the Lamiaceae family and is native to Mexico. Together with beans, corn and amaranth, chia was the basic diet of the Aztecs and Mayans. Chia is the Mayan word for strength. It supplied the Aztecs with energy for their continuous 24-hour walks. Tiny oval seeds (2 mm), light gray in color, with a very fresh flavour.
